Twitter Strategy?

Until recently, I was largely skeptical of the tweet-scape. But now I’m there @wordpost

I’m sure you’ve probably seen “Twitter in Plain English.” But video doesn’t explain how to use Twitter. It’s about as effective in teaching you how to use Twitter as a car commercial is in teaching you how to drive.

Part of me wonders how those who are following more than a few thousand people can keep track of everything. I’m following around 175 people, and I struggle to keep up. I’m actually considering unfollowing some of my tweeps…

There’s a general temptation to equate Twitter success with a huge following, but I think that maybe a relationship approach to Twitter is healthier, more sane, and ultimately a better fit for my situation.

I’m not a celebrity in real life. I don’t need to be one on Twitter either. I just really want to build relationships with people from whom I can learn something.

I just spoke with someone today that I “met” via Twitter (still strange). He seems like someone I’d love to work with. I hope I get the chance.

But that conversation took effort, time, and thought for both of us. If was solely focused on gaining more followers, I’m not sure that I would have taken the time and effort to start building a real relationship.

So for as for my Twitter strategy, maybe I’ll forgo the quantity approach for the sake of quality.
