First, thanks for the comment.

I think that in both marketing and sales there is a fine line between persuasion and manipulation. The difference, in both cases, is what is ethically okay and what's not.

What I'm trying to say is that I think evil isn't confined to sales. I guess I've seen the work of enough spineless marketers trying to squeeze every last penny from their customers to feel that way.

Marketing is not evil, it's a means for the provider to highlight the positive attributes of the product/service and the benefits to the consumer.

I think the moral line can be crossed in the “sales” environment, when the provider tries to persuade the consumer to spend money they don't have, on a product/service they don't need.
