Happy Birthday wordpost

March 24th, 2010 by Andrew Swenson in General

A little over a year ago I launched wordpost.org with an observation about the Bernie Madoff Experience. So I guess it’s birthday time.

If you still remember the banner above, bless you my friend.

And even if you don’t remember that banner, thanks for reading.

If you read this blog, I am deeply grateful. Thanks for trusting me with your time. You are the reason that I keep writing—even if this isn’t the biggest blog on the web, I’m grateful for each and every one of you.

If we haven’t connected on Twitter yet, it’s a shame. You can find me @wordpost. You can also email me any time at theword[at]wordpost[dot]org, or ping me on Skype (wordpost there too).

A couple of personal thank-yous

If your name happens to be Abby, Jessica, Shane, Beth, ColleenNeal, Jason, Bradford, Cali, Carlos, or Rich, thank you especially. You’ve done something for me that I can only hope to repay someday.

If your name happens to be Jennifer, thanks for being so supportive of my crazy late-night writing obsession. You’re the best wife a guy could ask for.

So here’s to many more years of blogging

Hope to talk with you soon…

-Andrew

Happy Birthday Wordpost! *sneakily blows out candle while you're smiling for camera* Thanks for writing, thinking and challenging!

Thanks for reading and challenging me Abby.

Also, I'm kinda pissed about those candles.

    Congrats on your blog mate!

Happy to have found it in time for bubbles… Wait, where is the champagne?! :)

    • http://wordpost.org Andrew Swenson

      Thanks Bas.

Your comments here over the past months have consistently pushed my thinking. I know there's a little ocean between us, but if you're ever in St. Louis, I'll buy you a glass of champaign—how's that?

      Thanks again!

Happy Birthday! I'm eating a cupcake in your honor!

    • http://wordpost.org Andrew Swenson

What kind of cupcake is a wordpost birthday cupcake do you think?

      • emilyjasper

I'm thinking Red Velvet with chocolate and cream cheese marble frosting with sugar sprinkles. :)

        • http://wordpost.org Andrew Swenson

          Perfect.

    Andrew,

If nothing else, you have taught me that thinking critically does not have to be a negative or cynical process.

The truth is, there is so much else. The way you shine light on common and widespread misconceptions, offer your point of view, and actually engage in discussion is beyond refreshing and has challenged me to be a better writer myself.

Congrats on making it this far, and I look forward to what you have to offer during the next trip around the sun.

    t(h)ink on.

    • http://wordpost.org Andrew Swenson

Thanks for the kind words Jason.

I've learned an immeasurable amount from this experience primarily though the relevant conversations that I've had with other bloggers and t(h)inkers like you.

I think it's our job to challenge each other, to aim for actionable dialogue over a vain community of drones, to push the limits of collaboration.

I think Carlos Miceli put it best when he described a vision of Collaboration 3.0: http://www.owlsparks.com/decisions/collaboratio…

Despite my initial skepticism, I think the community of people I interact with, over and above any one blog or platform, is reaching toward that.

      And it gives me hope.

      So thanks for that.

I just squeeed loud enough to break sound barriers.

I am SO fortunate, thrilled that we connected. Happy birthday to Wordpost. I really, really dig this space — and the thinkin', brainy, insightful person behind it.

Aaaand, I totally dig the original banner. Gato(e)rs unite!

    • http://wordpost.org Andrew Swenson

I hope one day to actually witness a Cali Harris squee.

The feeling is mutual Cali. I can't tell you how many people I shown the defense of grad school post in the last month or so. Lots of people really appreciate your insight.

And the original gator came from one of my wife's line drawings. I traced and colorized in Illustrator—it was my very first vector graphic project, so it took me like 10 hours or something ridiculous.

I'm still mad that you snapped up the “gater snacks” idea.

      *shakes fist*

But seriously, thanks for reading Cali. I'm looking forward to keeping in touch!

      • http://caligater.com/ Cali Harris

You will get to hear a squee one day.

Will you still remember me when you're a big-shot? (I've asked Jason this same question. He already told me no, he wouldn't remember me. :D )

And you can totally use “gater snacks.” Seriously.

Congratulations! Isn't fun to see how far you have come, what you have learned and those posts you love (and maybe now also dislike?)

PS. I love your old banner :)

    • http://wordpost.org Andrew Swenson

      Grace,

Having a fully searchable cross-section of my thoughts over the past year is a blessing and a curse for the reasons you articulated. Sometimes I think to myself, “did someone hack my account and post this, because certainly *I* didn't write that…”

And thanks for the compliment about the old banner.

  • http://nifermusings.blogspot.com/ Jen

Ha, my name is Jennifer, but I don't think I'm your wife! It's been fun reading anyway. :-) Happy birthday!

    • http://wordpost.org Andrew Swenson

Haha, I'd hope you'd know if you're my wife or not…

Thanks for stopping by and the well wishes :)

Happy birthday Wordpost! You continue to amaze me with your ability to engage with readers, to pull in interesting content, and to make thinking cool! Keep it up.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA a AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA aA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPY Bday. Notice the spaces in my response so your site doesn't break. I truly can't believe that I have never met you. It really is blowing my mind to think about all that we have accomplished together so quickly and yet have still yet to meet. BRB.

Just booked my flight to St. Louis. I will be there on May 26th. See you soon.
